The students were also addressed by MsJacqueline Morrissey, chairperson of the schoolboard of management. She said that they werecelebrating the enormous successes achieved bythe school across a broad range of curricularand extra curricular activities.
Ms Morrissey said she was fully aware of thewide range of initiatives which are part of theschool life. “We are very fortunate to have atour disposal a teaching staff with a great levelof expertise that is willing and capable ofencouraging and working with the students toenable them to reach their full potential. Everyyear I am astounded by the success whichthe pupils achieve for the school and theserepresent a continuation of the strong traditionof excellence which the C.B.S. SecondaryCharleville continues to enjoy,” she said.
Ms Morrissey also referred to the new extensionto the school which was offi cially opened by theMinister for Trade, Employment and Innovation,Mr. Batt O’Keeffe, T.D., which she said, was asignifi cant addition which would serve to benefi tand enhance the education of the young men ofthe town and surrounding areas into the future.
“We are embracing the principles of EdmundRice in delivering an education that is wholesomeand holistic in every respect, nurturing faith,Christian spirituality and values, promotingpartnership, excellence in teaching andlearning, creating a caring school communityand inspiring leadership.,” she said.
She thanked the members of the staff for theirdedication and particularly the school Principal,Mr. Pat Walsh for his leadership and commitmentto C.B.S. Charleville over the past year. Finallyshe urged the students to choose a job they loveand she wished the Leaving Certifi cate classsuccess in their forthcoming examination and intheir future careers.
Mr. Conor Counihan, CEO of St. Joseph’sFoundation and manager of the Cork footballteam was on hand to present the students withtheir awards, as were various sponsors of theprizes from Charleville Credit Union, AIB plcand Bank of Ireland plc.
Musical interludes were provided by the schoolorchestra under the directionof musical director, CatherineHorgan. Members of the castof the forthcoming school play‘Joseph’ also performed an extractfrom the show, which was stagedat the local community hall.
